It's an essential for every working mother today: You and your child's school or child-care provider should have a plan in the event of an emergency or disaster. Recently the National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies and the American Academy of Pediatrics released some key recommendations. Among them: Be certain about how your school, caregiver or day care will notify you in case a disaster occurs, how they will safely evacuate your child if necessary and how they will continue to care for your child if you can't get there. Set a meeting place in case your child is evacuated, and make sure your caregiver has the name and contact info for someone close to your family who's out of state in case local phone lines go down.Confirm that your child's school or day care has an emergency kit prepared. You should have one as well. For more information, including a list of suggested emergency supplies, go to www.naccrra.org/disaster or www.aap.org/family/frk/frkit.htm.
