Rangina Hamidi, 29, stands out among her 500 female employees. The Afghani grew up in Virginia and has now returned to her homeland to start her own firm. Kandahar Treasures employs women who work from home embroidering traditional wovens. "Because these women can't work outside the house, we decided to go in," says Hamidi (above left). Although the textiles are for the global market, there's a domestic dividend as well: women's rights. "What keeps me going is hearing a man admit his wife is contributing to the household."
