"Should I hang up my cleats?" wondered professional soccer player Christine Pearce Rampone when she and her husband, Chris, decided to have a baby. So the World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist took the year off to think about it. By the time she gave birth to daughter Rylie in September 2005, she realized she missed the sport. "The day Rylie was born, I knew I could do what I love and be a mom," Christie, 32, recalls. Within three months, she was back on the field. Rylie has accom-panied her mom on some of her travels and even spoke her first full sentence in the training room: "Mama, do you want water?" Is soccer in Rylie's future? "I hope she's involved in some aspect, but I'm not going to push it," Christie says. Having just competed in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, Christie and her teammates will be vying early next year to go to Beijing's 2008 Olympics. If they make it, you can bet that Christie's favorite cheerleader will be there to cheer her on.
